Data portability takes two.
In the obvious practical sense, data has a source and a destination for transfer. And in the strategic sense, DTI works together with many other organizations to develop ideas and build tools to power a vibrant data transfer ecosystem. We are honored to be a trusted collaborator with many different kinds of institutions, and we take seriously our opportunity to have a significant impact in the technology and policy worlds.
Three ways organizations engage with DTI
While we are not a trade association and do not drive our operations through consensus, we recognize the roles that our partners play in the ecosystem and we seek to help them succeed in their efforts to provide effective end user portability solutions.
Closest allies and champions of portability
Our partners are our closest allies, and fellow champions of the principles that power DTI and our work. We value their expertise in day-to-day data portability serving end users, and we keep them engaged in our independent activity, as we benefit from the perspective they provide across the spectrum of our work.
Key supporters on specific projects
Alongside our partners, affiliates of DTI are key supporters of our work. Affiliates collaborate with DTI on specific projects, reflecting shared values and interests. We bring our affiliates together periodically to share information and identify common challenges and opportunities.
Independent organizations we work alongside
DTI works with a number of other organizations in a range of ways. With those that have structured membership, DTI typically participates in an associate or nonprofit role, rarely in a leading or steering capacity.
